Maritime Associates International Limited
Up until 1967, shipping operations to and from Nigeria had remained exclusive to foreign companies.
The formation of Maritime Associates (International) Ltd. (MAIL) was the first attempt by an indigenous
company to break this monopoly.
The company was established both to support the increase in the volume of trade of the Yinka Folawiyo
Group and to carry on business as shipping agents, managers of ships and related martime business.
With the growth of international shipping and greater concessions by UNCTAD to developing countries
in their own carrying trade, MAIL was invited by the Nigerian Produce Marketing Company (NPMC) to be
a national carrier for Nigerian agricultural exports. Today, the company represents the interests of
many foreign ship-owners whose vessels call in Nigeria ports further enhancing its international reputation.
